MOM
My mom was great. Of the thirteen children she was the second child & second daughter (Pranati nicknamed Buli))of Dr Brojogopal Halder & Mrs Bonolota Halder. Brought up as a member of the Brahmo family she had to give up studies at an early age and took up the task of cooking and household chores to help the family members survive. She got married to Sti Ajit Kumar Burmon, (my dad) and had two children - eldest Ratnabali (Rita) my sister and me Aniruddha (Tablu). My mom was a versaatile genius. She was a great cook - anyone who has tasted food cooked by her still doesn't find words fit enough for praising her cooking, she used to weave clothes in a loom and make clothes with the help of her sewing machine, made toys, practised embroidery, painted different picctures on clothes, manged the small studio we had in Cherrapunji, took photographs, coloured photos with water colour, learnt making soft toys at a very late stage, could make cakes, jam jelly pickles etyc - communicated well with others.. She was born on 12th November, 1927(29) and died on 1 st October 2004 after one organ after another stopped functioning, but till the last she fought on and insisted on doing things herself though she was incapacitated.
