Derozio House Wall Magazine

Derozio House of the B.Ed section of University BT & Evening College published its Wall Magazine on the 30th of September 2010. It was inaugurated by Dr Aniruddha Burmon, Associate Professor in English of the said college and in-charge of the Derozio House, in presence of other members of the teaching of Staff of the B.Ed Section and the trainees. Apart from articles, poems by the trainees there was a rare picture of the inauguration of the college in the year 1968 by Maharaja Jgatdipendra Narayan (a descendant of Cooch Behar Royalty) in presence of Maharani Gina Narayan (Georgina May Egan) and the Vice-Chancellor of the University of North Bengal, Prof A. C. Roy. ; the oldest Bengali prose - a letter written by Maharaja Nara Narayan to the Ahom king Swarga Narayan and info about the students of Derozio (Young Bengal). In the background there is a photo of the old building of Presidency College. The most important fact is the Wall Magazine was published in CD format and the main magazine in flex.

I feel all teachers do not like to evaluate papers (neither do I). Some are good at teaching, others are good at setting questions and yet others are good at evaluating scripts. Isn't it possible distribute the work in such a way that those who are good at setting questions will set questions, those who are good at evaluating scripts will do so and those who are good at teaching will do the teaching work? I feel this way the efficiency will improve and no one will grumble.

Guddu (Onok)'s birthday was on 28th August. He is seven now. We missed the teachers and the staff of the school.
I am thinking, if it is possible to have a kind of a resource exchange programme to start with at least within the Teacher's r Colleges under North-Bengal University. Trainees would receive the expertise of teachers from other colleges. I have talked to some of my colleagues who have welcomed the proposal. I have also talked to the Chairman, Board of Studies (Education) and a Governing Body member of a Self-financing College. Both have welcomed the proposal. But my principal is not too sure.

Teachers' Day

Happy Teachers' Day to all teachers. Target the mind and not the 'syllabus' to make the world a better place to live in.

Attended a wonderful National Conference on Multiple Intelligences in Suri, Dist- Birbhum, West Bengal on 20th and 21st of March 2010. It was the first seminar/conference in West Bengal which I enjoyed thoroughly. I was not sure of presenting a paper but decided on presenting one at the last moment. The paper was highly appreciated. I also chaired a session on the second day. The conference was organized by English Teachers Association of India, Rarh Bangla Chapter, West Bengal. Close on the heels of this there was another National Conference in Mathabhanga College on the 25th & 26th of March. This was on Right to Development. This was also a very ood conference. My paper was highly lauded.
